Even if grandma got run over by a reindeer, you can still be home for Christmas -- if you attend the Quota Club's annual Holiday Home Tour, Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the tour, and are available at the Estes Park Visitors Center, Rocky Mountain Hair Emporium, MacDonald Book Shop, Big Horn Restaurant, Estes Park News, MedX of Estes and Rustic Home Décor. Get frolicking and (nut)cracking!
Included on the tour are the festive homes of Barbara and Gary Lister; Margie Hauser and Mike Todd; Cynthia McClure; Charlene and Joe deKehoe; Kathleen Cotten; and The Good Samaritan. Thunder Mountain, near the end of Spur 66, situated to offer breathtaking 180-degree views, spanning across Mt. Ypsilon, Lumpy Ridge and Emerald Mountain. The 1991, wood-sided, two-story home has a walk-out, lower-level. In 1998, the home was remodeled by Dallman Construction, to add a master bedroom and bath over the garage and to convert the old master bedroom into a corporate office for the Lister's business. In 2006, two art studios were added, each measuring 20 feet by 20 feet.
Gary grew up in Boulder. His parents owned a lot in Big Elk Meadows during the 1960s and they frequently visited there. Gary and Barb often retreated to the spot from 1982 to 1998, escaping the city life of Englewood and bringing their children and friends to Estes Park for weekend camping getaways in Rocky Mountain National Park or the nearby Estes Park Campground. The Listers had such fond memories of the area that they decided to retire in Estes Park.
